Tiny Pinapple

These tiny frost crystals were blowing off the trees and I was lucky enough to have my camera on hand.  We had JUST read Peter Pan, too.

Friends, this is THE SHORTEST day of the year.  That means tomorrow, the day after today, the days are going to get longer and longer.  Hurrah hurrah huzzay huzzah, ding dong the witch is dead, we made it we made it we made it!

Can you tell I need light?

Today…I give you the artistry of Kristian Schuller.

This picture haunts me in a good way.  Can you guess what this woman is doing?  She is praising the Lord.  Her starved body is in that bed in Kenya, but her spirit is absolutely not.  Whenever I see this picture, taken by Josh Reeder, I think of the passage in Habakkuk 3:17-18

17 Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

A small part of me wants to argue with this woman.  Why praise?  But that, I suppose is the beauty of it.  She is the authority on suffering here, and she still has chosen praise.  There isn’t a more powerful testimony than that.  And this picture…well, I’ve been meaning to get around to asking Josh to make a print of it for me.  I think it is a hard picture to see, but I think it will work on my soul.  I suppose that is what art is for, no?

We finally saw it last night.  Awww!

I am telling you about Karen Appleton’s Blog.  You’re Welcome.  Her subject matter is quite often presents.  I especially liked her post about mailing a ‘present’ (empty of course) so her participants could take pictures in random places and then share images.  The mail clerk asked the value of her package-package.  I think she started in on its value being “purely symbolic” before she gave up.  Anyway.  I’m a little bit obessed with her subject matter, her medium (oils), and her beautiful, beautiful, lovely, execution.  Enjoy!

My brother Matthew, who resides in Heaven, would have been 33 today.  Since my Mumsy is in town for the night, we did a little something-something.
